The Pirates signed Chiquillo for a moderate bonus out of Colombia.  He threw in the upper-80s with a curve that had plus potential.

Chiquillo made six starts to open the season, going 2-3 innings each time.  He walked 15 in 16.2 IP and had a 4.32 ERA.  After that, he pitched mostly in relief, walking ten in 14.1, although seven of the walks came in two poor outings.  He had a 2.51 ERA in that stretch.  He missed a lot of bats.

Chiquillo will have to continue making progress with his control.  He’ll be Rule 5 eligible after just one more season.
