SCOUTING REPORT
Carrasco was non-tendered by the Chicago White Sox in December 2009, after posting a strong 2009 season out of the White Sox bullpen. Carrasco pitched 93.1 innings in 49 appearances, with a 3.76 ERA, a 6.0 K/9, a 2.14 K/BB, and a 0.5 HR/9 ratio.

Carrasco pitched several different roles with the White Sox. He served as a long reliever, pitching two or three innings when a starter was bounced early. He’d close out games in a non-save situation with a four or five run lead. He also pitched middle relief in some close games, and would come on to pitch one or two outs to get out of an inning.  He signed a minor league deal with the Pirates, although he’s a near lock to make the bullpen out of Spring Training.  He will likely assume a long relief role, and serve as the emergency starter if needed.
