WTM’S PLAYER PROFILE |
Quinones was drafted as a 23-year-old senior from a small college. Midway University was actually his third college and its baseball program was in its first year. It had absorbed the discontinued program at St. Catharine College, an NAIA school where Quinones had been playing previously. He gave Midway its first-ever drafted player. The Pirates announced Quinones as a right-handed pitcher, but he also played some first base in college and led Midway in home runs and slugging in 2017. On the mound he was employed as a starter, posting a 3.34 ERA in 67.1 innings, with 29 walks, 48 strikeouts and a .244 BAA. Quinones threw a no-hitter on March 18, 2017.
2017 Quinones started off in the GCL, then worked his way up to Morgantown, where he finished the season. He didn’t walk many, but hitters in the New York-Penn League hit .299 against him. Quinones doesn’t have a lot of experience against advanced competition. He could return to Morgantown in 2018. |
