WTM’S PLAYER PROFILE |
Mielock was teammates with 2017 ninth round pick Bligh Madris, so the Pirates likely got a good look at him at the same time. Prior to that, Mielock played for a Division II college in Tampa. In 2017, he made four starts and ten relief appearances, posting a 2.35 ERA in 38.1 innings, with 38 strikeouts and a .175 BAA. In 2018, his ERA jumped to 7.04 in 30.2 innings, with 33 strikeouts and a .301 BAA. He throws only 87-89 mph, with a change that he relies upon heavily, and a curve. Mielock signed two weeks after the draft.
2018 The Pirates sent Mielock to the GCL, one of a number of college players they assigned to the lowest domestic affiliate. Despite pitching to much younger players, he had a very rough time, getting hit hard and struggling to throw strikes. Mielock evidently will be a project. |
