WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
Paredes is a lefty who’s pitched almost entirely in relief so far. He’s had some good K rates, but also some control issues.
2011 Paredes struggled in relief, especially with his control. 2012 Still pitching in relief, Paredes was much more effective, posting a very high K rate. 2013 Paredes didn’t pitch as well as the year before, mainly due to a higher walk rate. He continued to miss a good number of bats. 2014 The Pirates sent Paredes to the GCL, which probably says something by itself given that he opened the season at 21 after three years in the DSL. He continued pitching solely in relief. The results were largely the same. On the plus side, hitters batted only .211 against him and he had a decent K rate. On the minus side, he had significant control problems and just under half the hits he allowed went for extra bases. 2015 Paredes spent most of 2015 rehabbing a sore shoulder. He managed to avoid surgery and got into one game at the end of the season. Paredes will open the 2016 season at 23 and was already eligible for the Rule 5 draft after the 2015 season. It’d help his prospects if the Pirates concluded he was ready for Morgantown or even West Virginia. |
