SCOUTING REPORT
|
Martinez has made two brief appearances in the majors, one of which involved him getting hit in the head with a line drive and missing most of the 2009 season. He has yet to perform in the majors, although his AAA numbers don’t look as bad. Martinez has pitched 116.1 innings at the AAA level, with a 3.79 ERA, a 6.7 K/9, and a 2.6 BB/9 ratio. He has a four pitch mix, throwing an 86-91 MPH fastball that touches 92, and a solid-average changeup. I’m not sold on Martinez as a starting option, as his secondary pitches are below average, and his fastball is only average. I see him as more of a middle relief option, or maybe a Jeff Karstens type starter. |
