Minier was already 22 when the Pirates signed him. He throws his fastball in the low-90s.
2013 Minier pitched well in relief, partly as a closer. 2014 Minier opened the season at Jamestown, but was sent down to the GCL after struggling in two outings. He had some great numbers pitching in relief in rookie ball, specifically his ERA and K rate, but he had significant control problems. 2015 Minier pitched in relief for Morgantown, but got into only eleven games as he missed time at a couple of points with injuries. Opponents batted only .176 and slugged only .209 (he’s never allowed a HR as a pro) against him and he had a prodigious K rate, but he also had significant control problems. Minier will be 26 at the start of the 2016 season and he’s thrown barely over 66 innings as a pro. His high K rates are interesting, at least if he could start finding the strike zone more often, but he needs to get in a lot more innings and start advancing more quickly. |
