Arrieta pitched both as a starter and in long relief in his debut and was one of the DSL team’s better pitchers.  He showed good control, although his K rate wasn’t high.

2018
R:  1-4-0, 6.75 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, 36.0 IP, 7.3 BB/9, 7.5 K/9

The Pirates invited Arrieta to fall instructional league, then brought him to the GCL.  He pitched out of the rotation, but didn’t have the success he did the year before, with control being a big issue.  The Pirates moved him to the bullpen for his last three appearances.

Arrieta pitched strictly in relief at Bristol and the control problems continued.  Right-handed hitters had an astronomical .482 OBP against him.
