WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
Benitez is a small, speedy outfielder. Other than working walks, he’s struggled offensively.
2012 Benitez shared the CF duties in the DSL. Other than drawing walks, he did nothing with the bat. 2013 In his second DSL season, Benitez played center regularly, but improved only marginally at the plate. His K rate remained very high for a hitter with no power. He was, however, a prolific base stealer. 2014 Benitez continued to struggle most of the time at the plate, with no power at all, and his walk rate plummeted. He played strictly in left. 2015 The Pirates sent Benitez back to the GCL, where he got limited time at all three outfield positions. He regressed offensively. 2016 Benitez went back to the GCL for a third season and made some progress at the plate. He played all three outfield positions, but primarily left in deference to Yondry Contreras. 2017 The Pirates sent Benitez to Bristol, where he played in the outfield corners. He showed some speed, but didn’t hit much and had a dismal BB:K ratio. Benitez is just a year away from free agency. If he’s back in 2018, it’s likely to be at Bristol. |
