| Carlin recorded 112 at-bats in the majors over the last two seasons with San Diego and Arizona, with a .152/.246/.223 line and one homer. In his career at AAA he has a .265/.381/.386 line in 869 at-bats, with 15 homers. Carlin will add to the Pirates’ catching depth at the AAA level, which will be needed in the event of a Ryan Doumit injury. In that scenario, Carlin will see his playing time increase at AAA, with Erik Kratz getting the call to backup Jason Jaramillo in the majors. Carlin has the upside of a backup catcher, although his hitting is too weak to make him more than an emergency option. |
