WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Gilbert is a college senior who should quickly sign and help boost the lower level catching depth. He hit for a .308/.426/.487 line this year, with five home runs in 117 at-bats. He spent two years in JuCo before transferring to Mississippi State. Gilbert’s signing was delayed due to his school being in the College World Series.
2019 Gilbert played sparingly at Bristol, catching eight games, and starting four at first and two at third. At the plate, he struggled to make contact. The Pirates added a lot of catchers in the 2019 draft and Gilbert was only third on the depth chart at Bristol, behind Eli Wilson and Ethan Goforth. It looks like he’ll be an organizational catcher at the lower levels. |
