The Pirates signed Chi out of high school in Taiwan. He’s supposedly very fast, with good range in the outfield but a weak arm. I’m guessing power is not his strong suit. He played at the MLB baseball academy in Australia after signing. He didn’t hit much, but I have no idea how much those stats mean.
2010: Got a little playing time in GCL. Most of starts were in center, which probably means Pirates think he has some potential. Outside of drawing walks, though, was overmatched. Chi didn’t turn 19 until after the season started and maybe there’s still some chance he’ll grow a little; judging by what I saw in spring training, if anything his listed size is exaggerated. He should return to the GCL in 2011. |
