Cerda is a catcher who signed at age 17 out of the Dominican. He hasn’t shown much at the plate and appears to be an organizational player at this point.
2012 Cerda caught 19 games, throwing out 26% of base stealers. He showed little at the plate other than an ability to put the ball in play. 2013 Cerda caught in 28 games and again threw out 26%, but he had significant problems with errors, committing ten. He didn’t make any progress at the plate. 2014 Cerda backed up Yoel Gonzalez in the GCL. He hit very little in limited chances and threw out 15% of base stealers. 2015 Cerda returned to the GCL, where he shared third-string catching duties with Paul Brands. He went hitless in 24 at-bats and failed to throw out any of ten opposing base stealers. If he returns, Cerda figures to back up somewhere in short season ball. |
