Time to replace Iwamura with Walker

Even if we factor in expected positive regression, Iwamura is likely to provide slightly below average production for the season. At 31-years-old and on a one-year contract, that’s just not very valuable. It is time to replace Iwamura with the rejuvenated Neil Walker.

Walker to perform in utility role at Indy

Pirates cut eight, including Hart

The Pirates cut eight players from major league camp today, most notably Kevin Hart. Daniel McCutchen will be the team’s fifth starter to start the season. Brian Burres, Hector Gimenez, Chris Jakubauskas, Wil Ledezma, Jean Machi, Brian Myrow and Neil Walker were also sent to minor league camp. [Link]

Neil Walker’s future

Neil Walker will begin the 2010 season at Triple-A, his third consecutive stint at that level. The former top prospect’s future is murky at best, with Andy LaRoche blocking him in Pittsburgh and Pedro Alvarez storming through the minor leagues.
