The Pirates signed Lee as part of their effort to get a foot in the door in Australia. He was signed by Tony Harris, who coaches baseball down under and also works as a scout for the Pirates. Lee throws in the mid-80s and relies on location.
2011 Held his own in the GCL, although he didn’t fan a lot. Lee was much more effective after moving to the bullpen and pitching in 1-2 inning stints. Opponents hit .301 against him as a starter but only .222 as a reliever. He did, however, have better walk and K numbers as a starter. 2012 Lee returned to the GCL and pitched well out of the bullpen, including an improved K rate. Lee should move up to the New York-Penn League in 2013. NOTE: Some sources, including MiLB.com and even the Pirates’ media guide, list Lee as a RHP, but the photo above is him. Confusion about Lee seems to be widespread, as Fangraphs doesn’t even have a page for him. |
