WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
Warren went to the same school as the much more heralded Joe Gatto. He throws in the mid- to upper-80s, along with a breaking ball that registers in the 70s. He had a good junior season but his draft status took a hit in his senior season, due at least in part to control problems. The Pirates worked him out shortly before the draft and decided to select him despite the weak season. Given his height, lean frame and good athleticism, they undoubtedly consider him projectable. Baseball America did not include Warren on its list of the top seven prospects in New Jersey. Warren seemed excited about being drafted, but he does have a Tulane commitment. It’d be surprising if the Pirates were willing to go very far above slot money ($100,000) to sign him and prep players drafted in such late rounds don’t typically sign, but Warren may want to turn pro badly enough that he’ll sign for a little over slot money. |
